Whether you are planning your wedding and fancy a post-celebration kayak with friends and family or you’re on holiday and want to take in this beautiful region through authentically French experiences, our guide offers a few of the best things to see and do while you are staying in Aveyron.

Najac

Aveyron has no less than ten villages classed among the most beautiful and most visited in France and one of these is Najac, just ten minutes from Domaine de La Bertrandie.

Najac is a beautiful medieval village, surrounded by green countryside and filled with boutiques full of artisanal delights, traditional restaurants and plenty of insight about the history of the area.

Atop the hill lies the Château Royal which dates to the thirteenth century and provides spectacular views of the surrounding area.

There is a night market every Wednesday in the summer, with more than 70 producers offer specialties from the Aveyron and plenty of live entertainment in the main square.

Cordes-sur-Ciel

Half an hour from Domaine de La Bertrandie lies Cordes-sur-Ciel, a gorgeous medieval village with spectacular views and romantic cobbled streets.

A great way to spend a relaxing afternoon and sample some of the local gastronomy.

Villefranche-de-Rouergue

Villefranche-de-Rouergue also dates to the thirteenth century and is a fabulous market town with many excellent shops and restaurants. It also has many other useful services and additional accommodation and is located just 20 minutes from Domaine de La Bertrandie.

The town is in fact a bastide, meaning that it was fortified, and has a large central square and many covered arcades to discover. The red roofs made from Roman tiles make this a typically south of France town with a sun-drenched climate to match.

Don’t miss the Thursday morning market in Place Notre Dame.

Gorges de l'Aveyron

A haven for nature lovers and thrill-seekers alike!

There is so much to do and it’s all just ten minutes from Domaine de La Bertrandie.

Watersports

Nearby activities include Canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding and rafting.

A head for heights

Experience the local adventure park with its high-ropes course and via ferrata or why not try rock climbing and abseiling?

Outdoor adventurers

Mountain biking and electric biking, outdoor laser games, paintball, guided hikes and even flights over the gorges in light aircraft

We recommend AAGAC as your base for all these activities, located just outside Najac.

Further afield...

Rocamadour – Set on the mountainside, Rocamadour is unforgettable. It is known for the Cité Réligieuse complex of religious buildings, accessed via the Grand Escalier staircase and the streets filled with boutiques and restaurants. There are great walks around the area too.

Le Gouffre de Padirac – No visit to the area is complete without a trip to the astonishing caves of Padirac – descend into a great chasm below the ground and take a boat on an underground river hundreds of metres below the surface. The caves are truly astounding in their sheer scale and are sure to take your breath away.

Toulouse – The fourth largest city in France, with beautiful architecture dating back to Roman times, is the heart of south west France and ideal for a day trip from La Bertrandie.

The Domaine is situated in the south of the gorgeous region of Aveyron, close to the border with Tarn and the beautiful southern cities of Toulouse, Montpellier and Carcassonne. It lies an hour south of the dramatic landscapes of the Dordogne and is also within reach of Les Cevennes, Grands Causses and Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Parks to the south which feature outstanding rugged scenery with gorges, valleys, rivers, quaint stone villages and beautiful historic Châteaux at every turn.
